Current Event #3

I read the article "Partial Patriot Act Extension Is Approved by Senate Panel" from the Washington Post. It discussed how the Patriot Act is being amended and how both Democrats and Republicans are disapointed. The bill will allow the FBI more technology to track suspected terrorists, but the FBI will have to do more to obtain phone records , etc. The Democrats are upset because of the invasion of privacy, and the Republicans are upset about the burdens on the FBI.

I personally have nothing to hide, so I'm not really affected by this bill. However, a government should not intrude on its people's lives. The FBI should learn to find terrorists without infringing civil liberties, or else they will be hypocrites. The people have a right to privacy.

  1. I don't have anything to hide but i will be really disappointed if i discover that some FBI agents are invading my privacy.
I agree with you, i think they should use another methods to find terrorists, and maybe use these techniques when somebody is really suspect.

  2. I agree as well.it is an invasion of privacy.citizens should be able to speak freely without worrying that our government is eavesdropping, especially without just cause. It goes against people's liberties and not even the government has a right to do that

  3. This is a horrible invasion of privacy, and I've got a feeling the passing of this bill will do more harm than good in the public eye.

  4. Yup, this is a pretty terrible idea. Not only is it an invasion of privacy, but what constitutes as a "suspected terrorist"? Obviously it'd be based on assumptions but what if they track down an innocent person? They'd end up looking like jackasses and most likely facing legal battles.

  5. I personally don't really care if they listen in on my conversations, mainly cuz most of my conversations are in Hungarian and I'm just giving them a pain in the ass time if they're trying to figure out what I'm saying. Anyway, I still don't think they should invade peoples privacy like that for everyone else's sake.

  6. I agree it is an invasion of privacy, but I dont think i have a problem with the FBI looking deeper into personal information and trying to find suspected terrorist. If thats what it come down to in the future i would rather "be safe than sorry"
