Current Event #2

I read another article about "being green". (that always makes me think of Kermit) It was about how being environmentally conscientious is not all about buying solar panels, re-insulating your house, or buying those crazy-expensive hybrid cars. The main things you need to keep in mind is to "reduce, reuse, recycle". Reducing the amount of things you use is the most efficient; you can turn off the lights when you're not in he room to reduce the electricity you use. Reusing is the next most efficient; all you need to do is take your lunch in a lunch box instead of a paper bag. Recycling is the least efficient way to be green, and everyone knows about that. Some other examples from the article I read were to turn the thermostat down a few degrees, ride your bicycle, buy an efficient shower head, and use cheap cleaners(baking soda, rubbing alcohol) for cleaning windows or counters.

It is kind of surprising to me that people need to keep being reminded that the things we use everyday come from our environment. Paper does come from trees, and electricity comes from those ugly buildings that give off smoke from burning coal. Conserving the world's resources is something to consider every day. Now that our government is aware of that, it is becoming easier to do. I think that it is one of the governments responsibilities to take care of the environment, just like repairing highways and giving money to schools.

  1. For reals man! We've got to take responsibility for what damage the human race has already caused, and prevent more damage from happening. I appreciate that you didn't just say what needed to be fixed, but how it needed to be fixed.

  2. I love Kermit the Frog. :)
Anywho, the points you made are totally true... and even if they're not I definitely agree with them. I seriously worry about our world's future because there is such much pollution and I cringe everytime someone throws a perfectly good piece of paper or plastic/glass bottle away because it's really not that hard to recycle. I know you say recycling is the least useful way of staying green, but I definitely believe in it! The majority of people are not doing anything to help our earth and we're running out of ways to reverse the damage we've caused.

  3. I agree with the points that you made.while little things like bringing a reusable lunchbox to school instead of a paperbag don't seem like they would make a difference, they sort of do. people waste soooo much everyday that they don't even realize what an effect it has on the environment. we are using up and taking advantage of natures resources soo much, that pretty soon, well have turned our beautiful ecosystems into tree-less wastelands

  4. I agree with you. I see commercial for the new appliances to install in your house that are "Eco-friendly" and the solar panels and new cars, but if everyone who were able too, would ride a bike/walk/carpool to work or school would cut gas use in half. This way is would save you money on gas and you would have to buy ugly looking cars.
